First -- I thought it was so adorable that Anyta Sunday took two 7-year-olds from Shane and Trey's story, and gave them 20 years to tell their tale of romance. I was kind of hoping we'd get a cameo from Shane, but I guess it would be weird for 27 year-olds be be hanging out with their former after-school care provider. Paul and Karl do have a nice journey of re-discovery as adults -- as Paul learns to trust the new, humble Karl, and Karl makes himself a part of Paul's family. We don't get to see a lot of Karl's time with four-yeear-old Charlie, but he is an accurately-written 4-year-old.
I think the hurdle of why Karl was such a bully was handled well. (I'm glad it wasn't just that awful "he's mean to you because he likes you" excuse).

What kept me from being fully immersed in the story was that Karl didn't really get a backstory. Paul went to college, started a successful business, got married had a kid. Other than having a boyfriend, and volunteering at his grade school, Karl seemed to have been frozen in time from 18 until he bumped into Paul. I was curious how he got into cooking. Did he go to college? Were his parents just paying for him to live until they found out he was gay? How could he be a 27-year-old from a wealthy family, and seem to have no marketable skills beyond what he taught himself to do in the kitchen?

StStStuffed Enemies to Lovers Book 2 edition by Anyta Sunday Romance eBooks Reviews

This book was much better than the first. Both Karl and Paul had depth in their characterization and both were allowed to grow during the course of the story.

I liked that we were able to see the impact of Karl's bullying from the first book, on both characters, in this one. I also loved that Paul struggled with his sexuality because of his experiences being an outcast due to his stutter and never wanting to feel that again. Additionally, Paul's marriage wasn't explained away as a lie, but rather, as a sincere effort to love a woman that he truly cared for.

Finally, I appreciated that this book showed several reactions to the characters coming out - it wasn't all positive, or all negative, but a mixture; and each unique to an individual.
I really enjoyed this book. I don’t know that I could be the better person in a situation like this one, allowing an old school enemy to help take care of my son, it’s incredibly forgiving. I thought Paul was pretty awesome for that. It was what drew me into this story. At first I thought that Paul was straight and this was gonna be a repeat of the first book but I’m glad that is not the case because I remember not liking that one as much. Paul has a hard time with his feelings (this happened in the last book as well so its a recurring) but the addition of a child added more to this book. Paul’s struggle with his sexuality is wonderfully written and helps Karl come to terms with his past relationship as well. I though that was a nice parallel in the story.

The child was not a prop either. He was an integral part of the story. Children have a way of changing our entire view on the world and what we want from it. I loved how Charley was the catalyst that brought such happiness into their lives. Especially after they each had so much heartbreak.

Karl for the most part was exactly how I expected him to be. I enjoyed his growth as a character. He starts out a bit jaded IMO. And I think the fact that his old enemy was willing to start over with a clean slate really helped his pettiness and/or bitterness towards other people. And it knocked him down a peg. The Lambo holding sentimental value was a nice touch and I could relate to that so hard. My husband’s last parting gift from his father was to pay off his truck so he could continue working. He will NEVER get rid of that truck. The sentimental value is priceless. I think I could have benefited from knowing more of Karl’s family background, we just really get a peek-a-boo into it.

All in all a great follow-up and I plan on finishing this series this year. Heck, I’ve already read the next one.
For this review I'm going to overlook the typos in the story, firstly because other reviewers have already brought them up, but, more importantly, because the tender heart of this story is more important than minor niggles like misspellings.

One reason you should buy this book is that it's a dollar. A single dollar. There should be some kind of kindle formula for the amount of good story you get per cent I have *terrible* $6.99 books on my kindle, and this is a simply lovely story and costs a dollar.

Secondly, the author captures something really loving in the relationship between widower Paul, his son Charlie, and ex-bully Karl. It's very hard to write a believable story when you bring in a child character usually they are depicted as 2-dimensional sterotypes. However Charlie's voice is captured so well that the growing bond between Charlie and Karl had me hooked right from the beginning. By the end of the book it is unthinkable that Karl merely wants a relationship with Paul, who happens to have a son instead Karl is an essential part of a whole Charlie, Paul and Karl, together.

The secondary characters are excellent. The author shows in a believable way the difficulties of coming out to family and friends, and also how it is hard to make room for someone in your life when you're used to how things have been. Family reactions are not over-the-top; they show how people renegotiate the way they think about someone different, not worse.

I recommend this book to m/m romance fans.

EDIT I just read Furio's review, about the fetish-y sex that Karl and Paul have. Do you know, I didn't even notice that? I'm thinking to myself right now, "Really? They have fetishy-sex? What kind of fetishy sex?" I'm going to have to go back and read it again I guess I was so caught up with the interplay of emotions and being so happy they finally got together, that I completely overlooked any fetish tendencies!
